Froyo is here for the original Droid

Verizon has announced that Motorola Droid owners will start getting the Android 2.2 upgrade starting the week of August 2nd.  The over-the-air upgrade will be rolled out slowly to some owners first before sending the upgrade out to the wider audience. Instructions for the Droid upgrade can be found on Verizon’s site. This upgrade will bring Droid users up to speed with the latest flash and speed improvement from Froyo. Buried in the press release however, Verizon is stating that even after the upgrade the original Droid will not support Hotspot or Tethering. Tethering is one of the key features of the Froyo upgrade but Verizon claims that the Droid does not have the necessary hardware to support these features. I guess there has to be a reason to buy the Droid X or the new Droid 2
